Title Race comes down to the wire
If Liverpool are victorious against Southampton on Tuesday evening, the Premier League title race will be going down to the final day of the season, with only one point separating Liverpool and Manchester City, who sit on top of the tree.
Liverpool play Wolves at Anfield on the final day, whilst City host Aston Villa as they hope to retain their Premier League title. A win for Manchester City will see them lift the trophy regardless of the result at Anfield, however if City drop any points and Liverpool are victorious, it will be Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool who will reign victorious as they seek to life only their second title in over 30 years, following their success during the Covid-stricken 2019/20 Premier League campaign.
It is somewhat poetic that Manchester City should face Aston Villa on the final day, an Aston Villa side managed by Steven Gerrard, who also boast the likes of former Liverpool players Phillipe Coutinho and Danny Ings amongst their ranks, he will surely be hoping his players can take home the 3 points which will see his former side crowned champions. Gerrard and fans alike would see victory at the Etihad as making amends for Gerrard after his infamous ‘slip’ seemingly cost Liverpool the Premier League title in the 2013/14 season.
Goal difference will only come into play, if Liverpool pick up 4 points from their remaining two games, and if City lose against Villa, Manchester City have a 7 goal superior goal difference so if it did come down to this, it is very unlikely that Liverpool would lift the trophy.
