In a world where social distancing has become the ‘new normal’, venues, concerts and festivals have been forced to hit pause.

Cultural and events industries across the UK have been required to close their doors for the foreseeable future. The impact of the ongoing pandemic has created an uncertain future for the industry in which some venues will collapse without government funding.

The music industry has become increasingly more vocal over recent months as it has fought to get voices heard. Campaigns such as ‘Let the Music Play’ and ‘Save Our Venues’ have projected the issues in to the public eye as the government has been lobbied to respond. Whilst this week we have successfully seen a number of Brighton venues receive help from the government’s ‘Culture Recovery Fund’ grants scheme, the road is long to get live music back on its feet – and the industry is attempting to adapt in order to stand a chance at survival.

This month we will see some of Brighton’s much loved grassroots music venues host a number of live-streamed gigs – an attempt to keep the music playing as it navigates a new landscape. The gigs will take place over the next four weekends in an event named ‘Live is Alive!’

The events featuring emerging artists and bands will take place at The Dome beginning this Saturday 17th October and ending on 7th November. Tickets will be priced at £3 with proceeds helping to save the venues involved.
