Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was left “pleased” after his United side took a huge step towards qualification as they beat Turkish outfit Istanbul Basaksehir.
Solskjaer thought his side played with “confidence” and the “right mentality” throughout the first half as they led 3-0 at the break. Solskjaer did admit his side took their “foot off the pedal” and gave Basaksehir “something to play for” during the second half.
Despite the drop off in the second half, Solskjaer said a “4-1 win in the Champions League you are happy with” and has challenged his side ahead of the visit of PSG saying “we want to be top of the group”
Bruno Fernandes was yet again United’s talisman with his opening goal reminiscent of a Paul Scholes classic. Fernandes’ half-volley from the edge of the box following a corner got United off to a great start. Fernandes said “you need to be ready when you’re outside the box in these situations.”
Fernandes added a second before United were awarded a penalty and selflessly gave the ball to Marcus Rashford instead of capping off his hat-trick. Fernandes said “it doesn’t matter who takes the penalty, as long as you score it.” Fernandes added “we’re in a good position (in the group) but we cannot relax.” United now only need a point from their remaining games to qualify from the group.
