Manchester City secured a safe passage to the Champions League knockout phase with two games to spare after a comfortable victory over Olympiakos in Piraeus.

Despite City’s win, questions are still lingering surrounding Manchester City’s floundering attack but Pep Guardiola insists the goals will soon come for his team, he told BBC Sport after the game:

“We played really, really well in all departments. We are in the next round and can focus on other competitions. We would love to score more but it will come and one day we will break everything.”

City dominated throughout against the current Greek champions but had Phil Foden to thank once again nine minutes before half-time when he slotted in Raheem Sterling’s delightful back-pass.

Manchester City had a whole host of chances to further their lead, but could not take them with Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo wasting glaring opportunities, also having a whopping 22 attempts on goal.

Despite their attacking issues, Pep Guardiola heaped praise on his centre-backs John Stones and Ruben Dias for their performances, he said:

“Our central defenders were outstanding. A big compliment for John Stones because it is not easy after a long time and with Ruben alongside they make an incredible couple.”

Midfielder Kevin de Bruyne was rested for the tie but City welcomed back club record goalscorer Sergio Aguero from injury for the final 13 minutes as they began a spell of 11 games before the end of the year.
