Two late PSG goals were enough to grab all three points for the visitors with Group H set to go to the wire.
PSG dominated the early exchanges and took the lead after just six minutes with a smart finish from Neymar as he reacted quickest to Kylian Mbappe’s blocked shot to volley into the ground and past David De Gea.
United worked their way back into the game and levelled when Danilo Pereira deflected Marcus Rashford’s tame effort in at the near post past wrong footed Keylor Navas.
PSG retook the lead against the run of play with 20 minutes left when Marquinhos stabbed home from point blank range. Things got immediately worse for United with Fred receiving a second yellow card for what seemed a clean tackle.
Neymar wrapped up the victory in added time as he showed his class winning the ball back and starting the counter-attack, he capped off a great performance by passing into an open net.
It was a feisty contest throughout and after only 22 minutes Fred was lucky not to be sent off earlier following a VAR review after leaning his head into Leandro Paredas.
Anthony Martial had two golden chances early in the second half with the scores level, the first a ballooned shot over the bar from only five yards out and the second thwarted by a superb block by Marquinhos after Cavani had hit the bar with a chip from over 25 yards with United left to rue their missed chance again.
