Patrick Bamford scored his 100th career goal as Leeds recorded their first league home win since December beating Crystal Palace 2-0 at Elland Road.
Leeds United only needed three minutes to take the lead when Jack Harrison’s strike from the edge of the penalty area took a big deflection off Gary Cahill and looped past Vicente Guaita into the roof the Palace net.
After a dominant half, Leeds failed to build on their lead as Pascal Struijk missed a few guilt-edged chances from corners before Bamford scored his 12th league goal of the season forcing the ball home after Vicente Guaita parried Raphinha’s shot into his path.
Bamford also became the first player to score in three Premier League games in a season against teams he previously played for, scoring twice against Palace and in their last home victory over Burnley in December.
Crystal Palace rarely threatened Leeds’ goal, Eberechi Eze missed a golden opportunity to drag Palace back into the game, blazing over an effort from 12-yards and an Andros Townsend effort easily saved by Ilan Meslier, their only real chances in the game with their key man Wilfried Zaha out of action through a hamstring injury suffered in their win over Newcastle United last week.
In what was a comfortable night for Leeds, they really could have gone further ahead from a Bamford header, and a Stuart Dallas effort from the edge of the penalty area producing some decent saves from Guaita.
Harrison nearly grabbed his second and Leeds’ third late on but saw his effort rebound off the crossbar.
The victory moves Leeds up from 11th and above Arsenal to 10th on 32 points, while Palace, who themselves would have gone into the top half with a win, remain 13th, despite their upturn in form in recent weeks.
