This weekend is the rematch that has been in the making for almost a decade as Juan Francisco Estrada is fighting ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez for the WBC, WBA and The Ring super flyweight titles in Dallas.
The last time these two fought it was a very close fight where González came out victorious via unanimous decision back in 2012. When they fought eight years ago they was both light flyweights, while they are now super flyweights. When they fought in 2012 it was for González’s WBA light flyweight title.
Since then, González has won a world title in two different weight divisions (flyweight and super flyweight, adding to world titles at minimum-weight and light flyweight divisions). However, González has also lost his undefeated record, to Srisaket Sor Rungvisai twice and losing his WBC super flyweight title, the second defeat was via a vicious knockout.
González has done well recovering since then, winning four fights in a row and becoming the WBA super flyweight. His most recent victory was back in October against Israel González where he won via unanimous decision.
González has made it no secret that he wants to become the unified champion in the super flyweight division and victory this weekend would help him achieve his goal.
Going into the fight Estrada is the holder of the WBC and The Ring super flyweight titles. After losing the first fight against González, Estrada has become a two weight world champion, at flyweight and super flyweight.
The first time Estrada fought González was the only time in Estrada’s career he fought at light flyweight. Estrada has also been able to defeat the only man who has defeated González in his professional career, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, back in April 2019 via split decision.
In Estrada’s last fight he was able to recover from getting knockdown against Carlos Cuadras winning via TKO in the eleventh round.

Going into the fight it is expected that González will be the fighter on the front foot, putting pressure on Estrada for the entire fight. If Estrada is going to win he will need to fight off the back foot well and look to land off counter shots in the fight.
Estrada is the favourite going into the fight due his impressive wins in recent times but González is still one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world. The unification fight taking place this Saturday will be very exciting to watch which has a lot of hype to live up too.
