Home   /   Chelsea 2-1 Leeds FA Cup Final replay, as it happened

So here we go again! After there was nothing to separate the sides at Wembley, they meet again in the replay with the game today being played at Old Trafford. There will be a winner today!

The sides last met in the FA Cup, when they faced in the semi final in 1967 where Chelsea came out on top 1-0 winners.

Chelsea are unbeaten in their past 4 games at the neutral venue today, winning on 3 occasions and drawing the once.

This will be the 63rd game of the season for the Don Revie’s Yorkshire men today, and ‘only’ number 54 for the blues of Dave Sexton.

Team News

Sexton names the same side as the Wembley game but moves Harris from centre half to right back to with the dangerous Gray, this results in Webb moving to the middle.

Chelsea;

Bonetti, Harris (C), Dempsey, Webb, Mccreadie, Baldwin, Hollins, Cooke, Houseman, Hutchinson, Osgood

SUBSTITUTE – Hinton

One change in the Leeds side, with goalkeeper Sprake ruled out after being injured in the European Cup match against Celtic in the week. David Harvey takes over between the sticks.

Leeds;

Harvey, Madeley, Cooper, Bremner (C), Charlton, Hunter, Lorimer, Clarke, Jones, Giles, Gray

SUBSTITUTE – Bates

KICK OFF

1′ – Leeds come out the traps quickly and force the Blues into some early defending as this FA Cup final replay starts at a great pace.

4′ – Hutchinson with the first Chelsea effort but his shot goes well wide.

7′ – Tackles flying in everywhere today as Webb hacks down Gray for a Leeds free-kick.

19′ – Brilliant defending by Webb! He tracks the run from Clarke into the Chelsea box where he then makes a well timed tackle to clear the danger away.

23′ – Chelsea having plenty of defending to do now. This time Lorimer takes the ball down well for Leeds and ghosts beyond Webb, but unfortunately for the Blues his effort lacks his usual power and is comfortable for Bonetti to smother.

24′ – What a save! Bonneti tips Jones’s close-range touch behind for the first corner of the game.

24′ – Off the line! Chelsea living on the edge here. A sloppy back-pass from Dempsey is intercepted by Lorimer, who shoots past Bonetti but McCreadie comes to our rescue and clears off the line.

30′ – Bonetti has been clattered into by Jones while claiming a high cross and has stayed down as a result, he will require treatment from the physio here.

34′ – After a lengthy stoppage in play Bonetti is back on his feet and able to continue, to the delight of the Chelsea fans.

35′ – GOALLLL, first blood to Leeds! Jones opens the scoring in this hostile affair, the man who had just collided with Bonetti surges past Dempsey and McCreadie and fires a fierce effort into the top left corner.

41′ – There seems to be no love lost between these two sides! Harris catches Gray with a high tackle with the referee awarding Leeds a free-kick.

45′ – And the referee brings the first half to a close in which it was a feisty encounter where I’m sure the fans would have enjoyed it. But Chelsea have all the work to do here at Old Trafford if they want to get their hands on the famous trophy.

HT- Chelsea 0-1 Leeds

46′ – And we are back underway in the final as Chelsea look to try and find a way back into the game.

51′ – How has Charlton got away with that one then? Temperatures are rising as Charlton and Osgood clash over by the far touchline. After Osgood caught the Leeds defender late with a challenge, Charlton retaliates by kneeing the number 9 in the back. The referee has a word with both parties but rather surprisingly keeps his cards in his pocket.

55′ – A close call for the Blues as Dempsey heads away a cross under pressure, before Hollins deflects a strike from Giles wide of the target.

64′ – Finally Chelsea have their first shot on target as Baldwin is denied by Harvey in the Leeds goal.

65′ – Yellow card shown to Hutchinson after he pushes the Leeds skipper to the floor due to frustration

77′ – GOALLLL, and its an equaliser for Chelsea! A great header from Osgood, the striker runs in behind Charlton and meets Cooke’s beautifully-flighted chip with a disguised flying header. We’ve got a game on our hands now!

85′ – Great chance for the winner! Osgood slips the ball into the path of Hutchinson but he can only find the side netting, agonizing for the Chelsea fans.

90′ – Two chances for Leeds go begging now! First Gray loops a shot wastefully over, before Jones then heads off target at the far post after connecting with a Lorimer cross.

Full time – And that’s it for 90 minutes, once again these sides can’t be separated and they’ll be back out to play another 30 to hopefully find a winner. Both sides will feel they could have won this game right at the death, both sides missing big chances late on.

91′ – We are back underway with another 30 minutes to try and separate these sides.

95′ – It’s becoming a battle field out there for both sides as multiple players begin to go down with cramp.

100′ – Another fantastic save by Bonetti, or the ‘Cat’, as this time he is in the right place to save from Lorimer.

104′ – GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!! ONE HAND ON THE CUP NOW!!! It’s Webb for Chelsea to bundle home the ball at the back post from a resulting long throw by Hutchinson, wasn’t the prettiest of goals but Sexton won’t care! Can they hang on for a famous win?

105′ – And that was the final action of the first half, Chelsea go into the short break leading for the first time in this game after a brilliant moment for Webb who previously had a torrid time at Wembley in the original fixture.

ET HT- Chelsea 2-1 Leeds

106′ – And off we go for the final time in this fiery game as Sexton and his side look to see out this game.

109′ – Hutchinson thought he had wrapped up the victory but he had strayed offside before receiving the ball from Osgood, frustration for Chelsea fans.

112′ – Bit of game management from Sexton as he sends on Marvin Hinton to replace Osgood, with the striker sacrificed for an extra body in defence.

Full-time – Chelsea have won the FA Cup!

As for Leeds they put up a great fight as well as some rather strong challenges in which fans witnessed one of the feistiest football matches to date, pure passion was behind the game which is what the FA Cup is all about and why it is one of the most watched sporting events in England.
