The Brighton Christmas festival is up and running and ready for the public. The market includes an array of exciting Christmas stalls filled with delicious food, alcohol, fudge, two purpose built entertainment venues, live shows, all the fun of the fair even a unique opportunity to visit Santa’s grotto.
One of the most special parts of Christmas market is the selection of cuisines from various countries across the world. Including European food from Germany. This stall includes one of the most famous German sausages ‘Bratwurst’. It is made from veal, beef or most commonly pork. The name is derived from the Old High German Brätwurst from Brät. The first documented evidence of the Bratwurst in Germany dates to 1313 and can be found in the Franconian city of Nuremberg, which is still an internationally renowned centre for the production of grilling sausages. There is also ‘Krakauer’ and ‘Currywurst’ sausages to enjoy. Krakauer is a smoked and cured sausage with a hint of garlic. It is equally good eaten cold, grilled, simmered or in casseroles. Currywurst is a fast-food dish of German origin consisting of steamed and fried pork sausage. A mouth-watering selection of food to keep stomachs warm on chilly December days.
You could also choose to travel 5000 miles to Japan to enjoy some delicious Katsu noodles. Katsu has two varieties: Tonkatsu and Torikatsu.
Tonkatsu normally consists of either a pork fillet or a loin cut and the meat is usually salted, peppered, dipped in flour and beaten egg and then coated with panko (breadcrumbs) and deep fried.
Torikatsu usually consists of a butterflied chicken thigh treated in much the same way as the tonkatsu with some Japanese sweet wine added before being coated in panko and deep fried.
Finally, you don’t need to travel far for some inviting Great British cheese. Perfect for a Christmas day cheeseboard together with grapes and wine, there is a stall to collect an array of different varieties of this cheese. This stall gives you an opportunity to try flavours of GB cheese you may not have endeavoured to try before. You could enjoy Cheddar with chilli and lime or sticky toffee tastic or peri peri cheddar. You could even just go for the classic plougmans.
There is food from different continents only a few steps away from each other, a little something for everyone.
