Brighton and Hove Albion u23s won the Sussex Senior Challenge Cup after beating Worthing 4-2 at the Amex Community Stadium on Tuesday 10th May. Brighton turned on the style as Lorent Tolaj (2), Cam Peupion and Andy Moran brought the trophy home for The Seagulls.
Oliver Pearce scored an early penalty for Worthing, but were unable to hold onto their lead. Joel Colbran scored a late consolation goal from a corner. Whilst disappointed with this result, the Worthing fans will be delighted with the club’s achievements this season, winning the Isthmain Premier League.
This is Brighton’s fifteenth success in the tournament, which is one closer to Worthing who are the record holders for most tournament wins with twenty-one.
Brighton u23’s Head Coach Andrew Crofts was pleased with his player’s development, and hopes the experience of the occasion can help the players moving forward, “I said in the changing room after, we use this as a development tool, because if we can help then when they go in the first team environments, and they’re in play offs, or one-off games for promotion, or one of games to stay up.
“The way we treated that, if that helps them 1% in their experience in the first team, then hopefully that’s a gain for us.
“There was a real winning mentality out there today but we done it the way we wanted to do it.”
Brighton will be looking to end the season on a high as they face Tottenham u23s.
