Serie A table:

Salernitana keep scoring points, but are disappointed once more

After conceding a last minute equaliser against Cagliari, Salernitana had another huge chance to win a game and make a step towards Serie A survival.

At Empoli, the home side scored first with Patrick Cutrone, but Federico Bonazzoli’s bycicle-kick gave 15 minutes of hope to Davide Nicola’s side, who earned a penalty late on.

Diego Perotti, who before the game had only missed two of 29 penalties taken, broke all the hearts of the Salernitana fans, with Guglielmo Vicario saving a season-changing penalty.

Spezia make it two out of two

Once again, after their promotion in 2020, Spezia reach their target of remaining in the Serie A, winning against Udinese and earning another deserved year in the top-flight.

Daniele Verde, Emmanuel Gyasi and Giulio Maggiore overturned Nahuel Molina’s opening goal to send away the scares which had come after four straight defeats for Thiago Motta’s side.

Rey Manaj could have put the icing on the cake, but missed a penalty in stoppage time.

Juric is successful on his return at the Stadio Bentegodi

Ivan Juric’s Torino won against Hellas Verona to approach the last game of the season in the top 10. It would be a great result for Torino, who only narrowly escaped relegation last year.

It was Ivan Juric’s first game at the stadium of his former side, which he took over in 2019/20 to lead to successive top 10 finishes after being promoted.

Josip Brekalo’s seventh goal of the season denied Verona the second attempt to surpass their points-record in the Serie A.

Roma held by Venezia and the woodwork

Despite receiving the disappointing news that they would be relegated before the game, Venezia were off to a flying start, scoring inside the first minute with David Okereke.

Roma took a halt to their Europa League ambitions, as Sofian Kiyine received a red card after half-an-hour for a bad reaction foul on Lorenzo Pellegrini.

The midfielder hit the crossbar twice from a free-kick, with Bryan Cristante and Nicola Zalewski receiving the same fate.

Fortunately for Jose Mourinho, Eldor Shomourodov found a goal from one of 46 shots by the Giallorossi.

Scamacca shines again as Sassuolo reach 50 points milestone

For the third season, Sassuolo breakthrough the 50 points mark and did so in a 3-1 win over Bologna in the all-Emilian derby.

Gianluca Scamacca scored a brace, to reach 16 goals this campaign, which is an excellent number for a 23 year-old.

Fellow forward Domenico Berardi was also on the scoresheet thanks to a bycicle kick, in what is a fantastic season that sees him on 15 goals and 14 assists. Only Kylian Mbappe has at least the same number of both contributions in Europe’s top five leagues.

Napoli finish third as Genoa’s day comes

After 15 years spent in the top-flight, Genoa are forced to abandon, as the defeat against Napoli meant relegation in what was Lorenzo Insigne’s final home game for the Partenopei.

Insigne scored with a penalty his 122nd goal for the club, netting the ninth penalty of his season.

Victor Osimhen and Stanislav Lobotka scored, as Napoli hope to set the basis for a return to winning trophies in 2022/23, guaranteeing third place this campaign.

Milan are one step away from the title

Another victory, the fifth in a row, sent San Siro erupting and meant Milan need just a point in their final game to clinch their first league title in 11 years.

Rafael Leao, the main man in this season showdown, scored again, before Theo Hernandez left his mark with a splendid coast-to-coast.

It’s the first time in 20 years that Milan registered five consecutive clean sheets, as another one in the final game with Sassuolo would mean the Scudetto.

Lautaro Martinez gives Inter last the last glimmer of hope

Inter responded to Milan and ensured the title would be decided on the final game for the first time since 2010.

The Nerazzurri beat Cagliari 3-1 to give themselves some hope of winning, in case they beat Sampdoria and Sassuolo beat Milan.

Lautaro Martinez, who was heavily criticised for his drought after the new year, netted a brace, meaning he scored 13 goals in the last 13 appearances, after he was goalless for 10 consecutive games.

Sampdoria celebrate survival with goal galore

Receiving the news that they would be safe before playing, arguably removed a lot of pressure to Sampdoria, who went on to beat Fiorentina with a sumptuous 4-1.

It was the fourth defeat in five games for La Viola, whose recent up and down form risks costing them a well-deserved spot in Europe for next season.

Lazio finish fifth on Dybala’s farewell

As Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala said goodbye to their fans, the latter with an emotional standing ovation, Juventus conceded a last-second goal to Lazio.

Maurizio Sarri’s men came from 2-0 down to claim a Europa League spot thanks to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s goal with the last kick of the game.

Similarly to what happened last week, Juventus wasted the counter-attack that would have secured the win, to concede on the counter-counter-attack at the last minute.
