Line ups for both teams
Porto:
Atletico Madrid:
1′ – The match has kicked off in Porto at the Estadio do Dragao as Porto look to top the group whilst Atletico Madrid look to get into the Europa League via a 3rd place finish in their champions league group, Atletico can achieve this by matching the result in Leverkusen’s
3′ – Porto have started the game quickly and are clearly looking for an early goal
5′ – GOAL FOR PORTO!!! – A simple tap in for Mehdi Taremi who now has 5 goals and 2 assists in 5 champions league games, this puts Atletico last in the group and Porto top of the group.
12′ – Atletico seeing quite a lot of the ball but Porto are pressing smartly and winning it back in good areas in the pitch which is forcing Atletico to make last ditch efforts just to win the ball back, this is also stopping Atletico from building any kind of momentum
15′ – BIG CHANCE – Porto press and win the ball which sees Taremi play a reverse ball into Galeno but Oblak comes up with a big save to keep the score at 1-0
24′ – ANOTHER GOAL FOR PORTO!! – Galeno fizzes a low ball into the box which Eustaquio fires into the bottom left corner, Atletico once again were cut open too easily which isn’t a characteristic for a team with one of Europe’s best defences for seasons.
30′ – Atletico starting to build some attacks but are just lacking genuine quality, especially in the final third.
31′ – Costa is forced into action by De Paul who gets a shot off on the edge of the box after the ball found its way to him
37′ – ANOTHER BIG CHANCE FOR PORTO – Evanilson does a clever back heel to Taremi who finds Otavio who then tries to place his shot beyond Oblak in the bottom left corner but Oblak saves Atletico from further embarrassment by saving the ball with his feet, very De-Gea esque.
39′ – Yellow card for Marko Grujic who catches Correa with his arm.
42′ – Yellow card for Reinildo who’s late challenge on Otavio is punished, the referee initially played the advantage.
45′ – Half time here in Portugal and Porto look in charge as they leade by two goals to nil, it is worth pointing out that Atletico have came back from being 2 goals down just 3 days ago against Cadiz in La Liga. With the result in Germany being 0-0 Porto are on top of the group with Club Brugge 2nd, Leverkusen 3rd and Atletico Madrid being in 4th. I can only imagine what Diego Simeone is currently saying to his players but I can’t imagine that anyone would want to be in there!
Embed from Getty Images46′ – Atletico Madrid kick off the second half, a big response is needed otherwise Simeone’s side will be without European football for the rest of the season.
47′ – A half chance for Saul Niguez as a cross finds its way to the back post where Saul just mishits it making it very easy for Porto to deal with it.
48′ – Zaidu Sanusi is receiving treatment after a clash of knees with Savic who goes in late on the Nigerian international, Savic is punished with a yellow card.
52′ – Sanusi carries on for a couple of minutes but is unable to carry on as he due to his clear discomfort, he is replaced by Wendell who is a former Bayer Leverkusen player, they will be hoping that he can help Porto to see out this result which is looking more likely by the minute.
59′ – An effort from Joao Felix on the edge of the box is saved by Diogo Costa who shows good anticipation and positioning by making a fairly standard save look very easy.
60′- A double switch for Atletico Madrid:
62′ – FANTASTIC CHANCE MISSED!! – Taremi plays the ball into Evanilson who takes a shot near the penalty spot that unfortunately for Porto kept on rising, a very good chance to kill the game off for Sergio Conceicao’s men.
67′ – A GOAL FOR ATLETICO MADRID BUT? – The ball finds its way to Griezmann who wonderfully finishes into the top right but the goal is disallowed for a very dubious decision which goes against De Paul. A fight ensues and a yellow card is issued to Fabio Cardoso who squared up to De Paul who is also issued a yellow card
71′ – Carrasco is fouled but the referee plays advantage, then he is brought down again but the ref sees nothing wrong which allows Porto to launch a counter attack where Atletico deal with it.
73′ – A big save from Oblak who manages to hold the ball which came his way via a Evanilson header on the front post
75′ – A couple of good chances come Atletico’s way with Carrasco being the focal point of their attack, Carrasco himself controls a long ball and finds himself in a decent position with a slightly tight angle but Diogo Costa comes up with a save to deny him. Both Goalkeepers have been valuable to their respective teams.
80′ – A substitution for Porto – Evanilson comes off and Toni Martinez comes on
81′ – Oblak comes up trumps with a few good saves which just gives Atletico Madrid a sliver of hope in this game.
84′ – Substitution for Atletico Madrid:
87′ – LAST CHANCE FOR GRIEZMANN? – Griezmann with a fantastic chance to put Atletico Madrid back in with a chance to get something out of this match but he cant take it, could be the last good chance Atletico get in this game
89′ – A Triple substitution for Porto as Pepe, Galeno and Otavio are subbed off for Rodrigo Conceicao, Borges and Folha.
91′ – Griezmann finds Carrasco with a lovely outside of the boot pass but Carrasco’s effort towards Diogo Costa’s goal is tame and easily stopped by the Porto goalkeeper
94′ – GOAL FOR ATLETICO MADRID!!! – An own goal by Ivan Marcano right at the death gives Atletico a last gasp lifeline in this game
FULL TIME – Porto 2-1 Atletico Madrid – Despite a flurry of late attacks and chances for Atletico Madrid it was too little too late for Simeone’s side who will now not have any European football this season. A big win for Porto however as this confirms their place on top of group B which should give them an easier draw (in theory) in the round of 16.
