Home   /   The Comeback of all comebacks at the men’s gymnastics team final

Just when we all thought team GB were down and out, they somehow managed to pull themselves out from last place and bag themselves a bronze medal at the World Gymnastics Championships.

A roller coaster of an evening took place at the M&S Bank Arena tonight with China, Japan, and Great Britain getting the gold, silver, and bronze medals and also qualifying for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Each team didn’t go without their struggles throughout the event though with Japan after the second rotation down in sixth and Great Britain in last place.

Not only were their thrilling twists and turns to the evening but also exceptional routines throughout. Courtney Tulloch must be mentioned as a standout from tonight as he received a 14.666 for his ring’s routine after the dreaded pommel horse had proved to be an issue for the GB team. His performance was exactly what was needed to give everyone watching a glimmer of hope that maybe the team could clinch a medal.

We must also mention the gold medal-winning Chinese athletes who only qualified for the final in fourth place but managed to put together a strong performance tonight when others were making mistakes. The evening didn’t go quite as well for the Italian athletes who were challenging for that bronze medal right until the very end but, again, that dreaded pommel horse caused some issues for their team which resulted in them finishing in fourth place.

After all the excitement of today, the women will be back in the arena tomorrow to compete in the all-around final with Jessica Gadirova and Alice Kinsella looking to add to Great Britain’s medal tally.
