Manchester United came from behind twice to get revenge on Aston Villa and cause Unai Emery’s first loss as Villan’s boss.
The game was brought to life two minutes into the second half as Jacob Ramsey set Ollie Watkins through for a one-on-one, the Englishman made no mistake and coolly slotted it past Martin Dubravka. Claims for handball from Ramsey in the lead-up were turned down by David Coote and no VAR tonight meant the goal stood.
19 seconds after the restart, Manchester United found themselves level through Anthony Martial after Diogo Dalot found Portuguese teammate Bruno Fernandes who only had to lift his head up and roll it to Martial for a tap-in.
Aston Villa re-took the lead in the 61st minute through a Dalot own goal as former-red, Ashley Young, put a teasing cross in toward the back post which found substitute Leon Bailey who headed it across Dubravka forcing Dalot to put it into his own net.
United drew themselves level again in the 67th minute after Marcus Rashford picked up a loose ball, took it past Tyrone Mings, and slotted it into the bottom corner of Robin Olsen’s goal.
The reds continued to knock on the door and were eventually rewarded after Fernandes’ shot was deflected off Mings and found its way into the net of the wrong-footed Olsen.
Scott Mctominay sealed the victory after a fantastic cross from Alejandro Garnacho met the Scotsman’s foot and put United into the hat for the draw which follows tonight’s game.
