Gareth Bale scored a 2nd half penalty in Wales’s 1-1 draw against USA in their opening group game of the World Cup.
After a 64 year absence Wales fought back against USA to take a valuable point with Bale scoring the equaliser from the penalty spot after Timothy Weah put USA in front in the first half.
Page hailed his sides talisman in Bale after using his experience to win the penalty.
“He’s intelligent, he puts himself in those positions in the box, defenders commit themselves and, if they don’t get the timing right, it can be a foul.”
Bale who was named man of the match said: “The goal was exactly what we needed. It didn’t matter who scored it and it gave us a foothold to try and go and win it. I felt that we played very well in the second-half.”
The USA manager, Gregg Berhalter was happy with his sides performance and recognised the challenges his side faced in the 2nd half as Wales went more direct.
“It was a hard-fought game. We left everything out there.”
“Wales went very direct in the second half. And they’ve got a big team. And they made it difficult.”
