Brilliant Richadlison got the win against Serbia for Brazil with two goals on Thursday evening at Lusail Stadium as the Serbs put on a fight, especially in the first half.
The first half was promising, but most chances went to nothing. Serbia’s keeper was not exceptionally busy – he made a few important saves but other than that Brazil looked a bit toothless.
The best chance of the first half came in the 35th minute as space opened up for Raphinha, after a pass from Lucas Paquetá.
Casemiro also tried his luck against Milinković -Savić but with no success.
Serbia definitely looked confident throughout the first half and have made it everything but easy for five-time champions Brazil.
Brazil went for goals in the second half, and they got them. They started the half with a big chance for Raphinha. Vini Jr shone as well, working his magic throughout the second half. Brazil hit the woodwork a couple of times, but it wasn’t until the 63rd minute when the first goal happened – Richardlison shot into the empty net just as Milinkovic-Savic had saved a Vini Jr shot.
Ten minutes later it was all about pure Brazilian magic – Richardlison was the man of the moment again with a brilliant volley finish.
The Eagles were done after the second Brazil goal, mostly mentally, after having defended furiously for a bit over 60 minutes.
It took Brazil some time, but they got what they were hoping for – a win. And so it begins…
Do they have what it takes to become world champions?
