A 0-0 score line meant that Uruguay and South Korea’s match today (24th November 2022) was the fourth goalless game of this World Cup.
Embed from Getty ImagesThese two teams would have had a huge amount of respect for their opposition coming into today’s match, with the starting line-ups for both teams featuring some big names in football such as Luis Suarez and Son Heung-min.
Even with both countries strong attacking players neither team in this face-off managed to have the attack and energy that was needed to find that elusive goal.
The Uruguay team managed to hit the woodwork twice throughout the match once by Diego Godin in the first half, and the second by Federico Valverde as he almost managed to make a strike from distance count.
Despite these two near goals Uruguay Head Coach Diego Alonso said: “We couldn’t put pressure on Korea.”
South Korea’s Head Coach Paulo Bento described the match as “very competitive”, but it was clearly a game that showed both teams’ strong and organized defence rather than their impressive attacking play.
Bento went on to say that it was a “game with a very high level of play between two teams that respected each other.”
Uruguay will now move onto their next game in Group H which will be up against the highly rated Portugal on Monday.
