Japan aim to continue their dramatic journey in Qatar by beating Costa Rica this weekend. The Far East country grabbed a historical victory against Germany in their first match on Wednesday and now they put themselves in quite an advantageous position to reach the knockout round. If Japan could gain three points on Sunday, they have a possibility to put their name on the list of the last 16.
On the other hand, as conceded seven goals to Spain, Costa Rica is on the verge of elimination from Qatar. La Tricolor have to go back to their home country as long as gain a point at least. These respective situations enhance the importance of this match.
Hajime Moriyasu said: “The victory against Germany does not mean that we can beat Costa Rica. The game would be tough”, and implied that he will make some changes to his starting lineup in an effort to rest some key players.
Similarly, Luis Fernando Suarez admitted: “It would be a very tough match especially because Japan played in the first match they had a wonderful performance against Germany”, but he stressed that they still have not given up on reaching the tournament.
The match kicks off at 10:00 am UK time at Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.
