Brazil are now in the last 16 of the World Cup alongside France after a Casemiro late goal against Switzerland at the 974 Stadium in Doha on Monday afternoon.
Overall quite a slowly developing game, there was not much action, especially throughout the first half.
Brazil won a free-kick after only 20 seconds, and they were creating chances across the first 45 minutes, but nothing too interesting or creative emerged; they seemed to miss a bit of a spark (and yes, Neymar Jr. as well).
Switzerland had only one attempt in the first half and looked rather dull. Most of the action was going on in the midfield.
Widmer created one of the best chances of the game for Switzerland during the second half as he got the ball behind on the right and crossed, and a Djibril Sow shot was blocked by, surprisingly, Vini Jr.
The latter scored a goal in the 66th minute, which got disallowed due to offside. After that, Brazil was pressing and pressing until Casemiro opened the scoresheet in the 83rd minute with a great strike to send his country to the last 16.
Brazil set a new record and are now unbeaten in 17 World Cup games.
They take on Cameroon on 2nd of December in the last game of Group G, while Switzerland will face off against Serbia for the resolution of the group.
