Home   /   Now or never for Germany ahead of final match in group E

Germany remains in a real danger of going out in the group stage after failing to win their two first games, since 1938.

After Japan´s shocking win against Costa Rica, Germany still has a chance to go through to the last 16, if they win over Costa Rica at Al Bayt Stadium.

With Spain toping the group E before the last game, Hansi Flick´s men are on the bottom of the group with only one point and need Spain to beat Japan in their last game.

After their exit at the Euros 2020, after losing against England 2-0, Joachim Low was done as manager after 15-year reign and former Bayern Munich manager, Flick was appointed the national team to rebuild the national game.

“We are going to try to make matters clear from the start, exert some pressure and adopt the same attitude we had with Spain. “To come back from 7-0 [against Spain] to win against Japan is no mean feat. We have to respect that. We will see what they have in store and come up with the right solution,” said Flick.

“I do believe we are the forefront of the game. We play with intensity, have high pressing. We want to force errors and have possession. We want to play attractive, modern football. This is what we stand for.”

Line-ups:

Germany IX (4-2-3-1): Neuer, Rudiger, Raum, Kimmich, Goretzka, Gnabry, Muller, Musiala, Sule, Sane, Gundogan

Costa Rica XI (3-4-2-1): Navas, Vargas, Waston, Duarte, Oviedo, Tejeda, Borges, Fuller, Campbell, Aguilera, Venegas
