As the world’s capacity to deal with the growing output of disposable plastic goods becomes overwhelmed, plastic pollution has emerged as one of the most critical issues facing the environment. In developing countries, where rubbish collection services are either poor or nonexistent, plastic pollution is most prominent. However, the developed world also has issues with effectively collecting used plastics, particularly in nations with poor recycling rates.
Jib, originally from Ghana travelled to Brighton to market goods manufactured from recycled plastic. He works for Care, a women-owned business based in Ghana that produces goods from recycled plastic gathered from various locations. He says that water contamination is Ghana’s primary problem. People who consume water discard empty bottles without using proper waste management techniques. Some nations have a tendency to either burn it or dispose of it in landfills which will cause health issues in humans.
After drinking the water, he encourages everyone to recycle the bottles rather than throw them away. Therefore, the goal is to raise public awareness of the problems caused by plastic pollution. He says, “Plastic will be there for thousands of years and is good in some ways, but we must recycle it appropriately”.
