Tottenham will be hoping to repeat their record 8-0 thrashing of Brighton last season when they visit the Amex on Sunday.

Last October’s result remains Spurs’ biggest margin of victory in the WSL, and they were buoyed by a 6-0 rout of Championship side Reading in the League cup on Wednesday.

Brighton are a different prospect since that heavy defeat, with 10 new signings still bedding into the squad after a hectic transfer window.

Their own 3-0 win in the League Cup at Birmingham City gives Melissa Phillips’ side some impetus going into Sunday’s game.

Speaking to BHAFC post-match, Phillips said that “we’ll take a lot of momentum from the positive feeling and build that into the weekend.

“Spurs are in great form so we know it’ll be really competitive”.

For Spurs manager, Robert Vilahamn, the long-term project is top priority.

Speaking to VAVEL after their previous WSL match, a 3-1 win over Bristol City, he said “the main thing in [my] second year is to go for the Champions League.

“The first year is making sure we play a certain style and can do it in the long run.”

Tottenham’s Bethany England remains absent after hip surgery, meaning Martha Thomas will need to continue her fine run of three goals in three games. Jessica Naz’s good form may be rewarded by a first 23/24 WSL start.

For Brighton, the key will be to keep Elisabeth Terland and Katie Robinson firing. Combined they have scored all but one of their goals this season.
