Race complaint over water pistol arrest
THE police watchdog is investigating a racism complaint after armed police arrested a boy playing with a water pistol in Hackney, Matt Jones writes.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct made the decision after concerns from the boy’s mother and a desire to reassure the wider community.
The Metropolitan Police twice referred the complaint, alleging racial discrimination and adultification, to the IOPC.
Charmaine Arbouin, the IOPC’s Regional Director for London, said: “We know that incidents like these also have an impact within policing as well as the wider community, so we will do all we can to conduct this investigation quickly.”

New support after “sexual trauma” in military
WOMEN veterans who suffered sex attacks or discrimination while serving in the military are to get extra support, Isabella Womack writes.
One in four women say they experienced sexual trauma while on military service, government researchers say.
The government has pledged £200,000 to the healthcare and charity sector following recommendations in three independent reports commissioned by the Office for Veterans’ Affairs.
Andrew Murrison, minister for Defence People, Veterans and Service families, said: “Our service women are an integral part of the Armed Forces community and the sacrifices they make to defend our nation are immense.”

Reward for info over Brighton seafront rape
DETECTIVES investigating a rape on Brighton seafront are offering a £500 reward for help identifying a man they want to speak to, Joey Morris writes.
A 40-year-old woman reported being raped early on Sunday, September 10, near Kings Road Arches.
The man was last seen at Brighton Railway Station at around 5:45 am.
Detective Chief Inspector Luke Kyriakides-Yeldham said: “We’re also keen to speak to any other witnesses, or anyone who saw any suspicious
behaviour in the vicinity of Kings Road Arches on that morning.”
