Young talent, Fermin Lopez starred as Barcelona beat Shakhtar Donetsk to maintain their 100 per cent record in Group H.
The youngster had a stunning shot in the 36th minute, allowing his side to quickly run away with the three points just before the break.
Both Barcelona and Shakhtar Donetsk were competitive in the early stages of the first half. Shakhtar Donetsk held possession against the Spanish side well making their defence work. Both sides held a strong percentage of possession, and several chances could have given either Barcelona or Shakhtar Donetsk the lead, but it was Ferran Torres who capitalised on these chances.
After Lopez hit the crossbar in the 28th minute Torres followed in to put Barcelona in front but the whole stadium held their breath as the goal was subjected to a short VAR check but was deemed onside. This goal seemed to give Barcelona the confidence they needed. The Spanish side started to dominate the game, not allowing Shakhtar to gather as much possession.
Barcelona looked comfortable going into the second half and Torres thought he had scored his second of night in the 60th minute but the offside flag was up meaning the Spanish side still had work to do.
Heorhiy Sudakov restored hope for Shakhtar in the 62nd minute after making an excellent run through the Barcelona defence and smashing the ball into the oppositions net. Shakhtar had a few chances late in the game but Barcelona were able to hold onto the victory.
Barcelona’s win means they remain top of Group H with a 100 per cent record, while Shakhtar are in third.
