Brighton 2–1 Brentford
Brighton come from behind to beat Brentford at the AMEX as Jack Hinshelwood scores his first Premier League goal.
Captain Pascal Gross provided a goal and an assist on his return to the starting lineup as De Zerbi’s side picked up their second win in their last three Premier League fixtures.
After a tepid opening phase, the game was set alight when Jan Paul van Hecke tripped Vitaly Janelt in the area as he was bearing down on Jason Steele’s goal. Bryan Mbeumo stepped up to take the penalty and converted to put the away side ahead in the 26th minute.
The home team responded instantly. It was a clever move from the Seagulls as Joao Pedro picked up the ball Infront of the half-way line and played it to Mitoma who cut the ball back for the captain Pascal Gross to leather home the equalizer into the far corner from 20 yards on the half an hour mark.
The game looked to be swaying in the home team’s favor as Brighton came closest to taking the lead late in the first half, but Van Hecke aimed his header slightly over the crossbar.
Brentford were close to taking the lead seven minutes after the restart but for some excellent defending on the line from Hinshelwood, who had an outstanding game again.
The 18-year-old academy graduate scored his first Premier League goal just moments after as he rose above his marker to latch onto Pascal Gross’ cross. The Englishman was serenaded with chants of his name after being withdrawn in the 73rd minute.
Albion grabbed control of the game early in the second half and had multiple chances to double their lead. Karou Mitoma remained lively and hit the side netting with some of the home support thinking the ball had gone in.
De Zerbi’s side were not letting up and Simon Adingra was close to finding his fourth of the season with a spectacular volley following a corner. The ball fell perfectly to the Ivorian, and he fired powerfully at Mark Flekken who pulled off a strong save.
Adingra was hungry for a goal and came even closer as his curled effort brushed the post in the 82nd minute with the goalkeeper left rooted to the spot. That would be the winger’s last action of the game as he was replaced by Jakub Moder and the entirety of the AMEX stood up to congratulate the midfielder on only his second game after a lengthy injury back in 2022.
The home side saw out the final minutes comfortably to secure all three points as they moved up to seventh place in the Premier League Table.
