Brighton came from behind at the AMEX to beat Brentford 2-1 in the Premier League with Jack Hinshelwood scoring his first goal for the Seagulls.

18-year-old academy graduate Jack Hinshelwood scored the winner for Brighton, in the 51st minute, to complete the turnaround, just moments after making a fantastic goal-line clearance. Pascal Gross dug a cross to the back post, where Hinshelwood won the header and scored.

Bryan Mbuemo gave Brentford a 27th minute lead from the spot. Vitaly Janelt found a gap in the Brighton defence and was pulled down by Jan Paul van Hecke. Referee Peter Bankes pointed to the spot, where Mbuemo casually passed the ball into the bottom left corner, with Jason Steele diving in the opposite direction.

Gross scored the equaliser for Albion in the 31st minute with a fantastic finish into the bottom corner. Kaoru Mitoma picked out the German on the edge of the box, where Gross hit a left footed shot across goal into the bottom corner, leaving Mark Flekken with no chance.

Simon Adingra came closest to opening the scoring before Brentford’s penalty. Gross’ corner found its way to Adingra on the edge of the box, however his volley was always rising and couldn’t trouble Flekken in goal.

After Gross’s equaliser, van Hecke had a chance to give Brighton a half time lead. Billy Gilmour’s corner was whipped in ferociously, where van Hecke had a free header on the edge of the six-yard box, however, the Dutchman could not direct his powerful header on target.

Albion had the first chance of the second half. Adingra stole the ball off of Saman Ghoddos deep into the Brentford half, before finding Joao Pedro, who couldn’t steer his shot past Flekken.

Just one minute before Hinshelwood’s goal, he made a goal saving clearance off the line at the other end. Frank Onyeka won the ball off Gross and found Neal Maupay, who’s shot was blocked by Igor Julio, before the ball eventually came to substitute Yoane Wissa, who’s effort was cleared off the line by Hinshelwood.

Brighton had two half-chances that came minutes after their second goal of the night. The first was for Pedro, who controlled the ball fantastically with his chest, however his volley flew over the bar. Then Mitoma found space inside the Brentford area, however his layoff to Pedro was not up to his normal high standards, and Pedro failed to get an effort off at goal.

Despite a late push from Brentford, and an overhead kick attempt from Ben Mee, Albion managed to hold on to increase the gap between the two sides to six points in the Premier League, and lift themselves to 7th in the league.
