Russell Martin doesn’t care what you think.

“The only peoples’ opinion that matters (are) my bosses.”

The words of the Southampton manager echoed into the Saint’s press room as he answered questions in preparation for Saturday’s fixture against Arsenal.

Russell reiterated that “no one is happy that we haven’t won yet” referring to his team in addition to the ownership feeling the effects of recent results.

This places the question that Martin’s job may be in jeopardy if poor results continue. Martin also referred to his personal feelings regarding outside noise and doubts seeping into the infrastructure of the club.

Martin said: “You need to accept everything as a manager… I didn’t really pay attention to the noise. I didn’t when we went 25 games unbeaten and I won’t now.”

“Every three days we have an unbelievable test,” said Mikel Arteta.

Arteta reinforced the hot topic in the world of football when asked about the frequency of fixtures for his Arsenal side. Players like Rodri, Alexis Mac Allister and Arsenal’s Jurrien Timber have all recently stated varying opinions on the difficult schedules of footballers at the highest level.

Arteta also responded to the situation by saying “we have to put players in positions and qualities where they can feel it” highlighting his value for hard work.
