Dover Athletic extended their lead at the top of the Isthmian Premier Division with a dominant 3-1 victory over Lewes on a rainy Tuesday night at the Dripping Pan.
The Whites struck early, opening the scoring in the 8th minute when George Nikaj headed home a cross from Ruben Soares-Junior. Just three minutes later, Soares-Junior doubled the lead, curling a left-footed strike after a quick counterattack.
Lewes’ woes deepened in the 38th minute when goalkeeper Toby Bull brought down Luke Baptiste in the box. Baptiste confidently converted the resulting penalty to give Dover a comfortable 3-0 halftime lead.Â
The second half saw a more determined Lewes side, who were rewarded in the 60th minute. Danny Bassett capitalised on a rebound to give the home crowd something to cheer about. However, Dover’s defensive discipline ensured no further chances for the hosts.
The victory marks Dover’s eighth win in nine matches, maintaining their five-point lead at the top. They now shift focus to Saturday’s crucial clash against Cray Valley, aiming to further strengthen their title bid.
