Home   /   A Last Minute Screamer From Gareth Bale: 10 Years on From West Ham 2-3 Tottenham

On the 25th of February 2013, we travelled to London rivals West Ham, looking to extend a two game winning run in the Premier League and move up to third place, above Chelsea.

We took an early lead through Gareth Bale, with a driven shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box but West Ham striker Andy Carroll equalised in the 25th minute through a penalty, leaving the score 1-1 at half-time.

West Ham would then take the lead in the game as Joe Cole latched on too an over the top ball and finished past Hugo Lloris. We would leave it until the 76th minute to make the game 2-2 with a scruffy goal, which was eventually tapped in by Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Then the moment happened. In the 90th minute of the game, Bale went down and though he was fouled, but with the referee playing advantage and Tom Carroll on the ball, the ball was passed back to Bale. Then he set himself and from around 25 yards out, he dipped the ball past Jussi Jääskeläinen into the top corner to win the London derby with one of the last kicks of the game.

This put us into third in the Premier League Table. We went on to finish fifth in the league that season, as Bale went on to win PFA Player and Young Player of the Year. He then joined Real Madrid in the summer.
