Norris had to win for his team to become champion after his teammate Oscar Piastri had his race ruined on the first lap by Max Verstappen crashing into him, leaving him in last place and requiring a pit stop for some new tires. An event that got the world champion a 10 second penalty.

Ferrari gave everything they had to make up the 21 points but despite Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc making up the rest of the podium, they were still X points behind the champions.

Elsewhere, Lewis Hamilton gave a performance that did justice to his legacy at Mercedes, climbing from 16th to a fourth place finish in his final race before donning the red suit of Ferrari.

Hamilton’s teammate and the future of Mercedes George Russell finished fifth, a strong finish that they will hope will lead on to a good start next season.

Driver’s champion Verstappen rounded out the top six while his teammate Sergio Perez crashed out on the first lap.
