Carlo Ancelotti will expect a positive reaction after his Everton suffered first defeat of the season against Southampton.
First-half goals from James Ward-Prowse and Che Adams were enough to see off the league leaders. 18 minutes from time Lucas Digne received a red card to compound a miserable afternoon for the Toffees.
Ancelotti said that his team did not play as well as usual, but that should not break the team spirit.
“We tried in the second half, but it was complicated as they were compact at the back and we did not find enough space to create chances.
“We have to accept that we did not play well and lost the game, but this defeat does not have to affect our belief and our ambitions.
“We are still in a very good position in the table. I knew the first loss would come sooner or later and that does not mean we will lose our spirit or attitude.”
The Everton boss also said that his team made a very good effort, even with 10 men.
“They fought until the end, it was not a good day for us. We will now go home, relax and then prepare for the game against Newcastle.”
