Arsenal missed a massive chance to move into the top four with a frustrating goalless draw against Burnley yesterday.
Mikel Arteta’s depleted squad at the Emirates had a good chance to take advantage of their games in hand and grab all three points against a poor-performing Burnley. However, after 94 minutes, 20 shots and 76% possession, they couldn’t score. Captain, Alexander Lacazette missed several chances in front of goal and in doing so failed to move the Gunners above Spurs, Manchester United and West Ham.
Suspensions, injuries and other reasons for absentees meant that the home side lacked depth on the bench yesterday afternoon. Eddie Nketiah was the only substitute brought on and failed to have the desired impact to win the game. Now on 36 points and in sixth position after 21 games, the upcoming winter break is exactly what they need.
Burnley defenders Ben Mee and James Tarkowski put on a fantastic defensive display for their side and earnt a well-deserved point. Last season, they were able to win away to Arsenal for the first time ever in the Premier League. This time round though, the Clarets will take every undefeated result they can get as they try to salvage themselves from dead bottom of the league.
Arsenal fans were more than disappointed to see opposition midfielder Ashley Westwood not come away with a red card yesterday. Following a late challenge on Kieran Tierny and acting recklessly throughout the match, the Englishman was lucky to not reduce his side to ten men.
