British racing driver Lewis Hamilton was knighted in Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year Honours with the Mercedes man receiving a long-deserved knighthood.
The knighthood in question, came after Hamilton finished the 2020 Formula One season winning title number seven, equalling German driver Michael Schumacher on World Drivers’ Championships.
This record-equalling title makes it Hamilton’s sixth title in the last seven years as well as Mercedes seventh consecutive Constructors’ Championship, making them one of the most dominant teams in F1 history and now having won the most titles consecutively in Formula One history.
During the season Hamilton also surpassed Schumacher in race wins. Schumacher’s record of 91, was finally beaten at the Eifel Grand Prix after it stood for almost 15 years. Hamilton finished the calendar year with a total of 95 wins.
The question on fans lips is will he finally sign a new contract with Mercedes for the 2021 season and attempt to surpass a century of wins and secure his eighth world title, therefore becoming the most successful driver in the history of the sport.
Are there any drivers capable of competing with and giving Sir Lewis Hamilton a run for his money?
