“Today was such a difficult game”, Martinez said following Belgium’s unconvincing result against a surprisingly strong Canadian side.
Most people expected the three-points to go Belgium’s way but what most people didn’t expect to see was the number of chances that Canada managed to create.
Canada’s head coach John Herdman, said: “These lads put a shift in.
“They showed that they can live on this stage.”
Despite Canada’s strong performance, Herdman’s side was left disappointed with the end result and will need to do better in front of goal if they aim to beat Croatia in their next match.
“It’s how we respond now, with that belief and we keep the brotherhood tight we got a chance”, said Herdman.
Martinez gave the opposition a lot of praise in his post-match interview: “Canada were better than us in what we wanted to do. They were very clear in what they wanted to do.”
Both teams have to face a quick turnaround now with only four days until we see Group F in action again.
