Home   /   Brighton keep up unbeaten run with 1-0 victory against Leeds

Brighton moved to the dizzying heights of second in the Premier League table temporarily after securing a 1-0 win over Leeds United at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton’s new signing Pervis Estupinan made his first start for the club in this game, with the home fans firmly in the corner of the Ecuadorian when the teams were announced.

The Seagulls started brightly, bossing possession and creating chances. Adam Webster nearly put them ahead with a header from a Pascal Gross free-kick in the 17th minute, before Solly March worked goalkeeper Illan Meslier into a save in the 22nd minute.

Brighton were clearly the dominant side in the first half, with March and Leandro Trossard causing all sorts of problems on the wings, but Leeds held on to remain level at the break.

March should have put the hosts ahead in the 51st minute after being put through on goal and one-on-one with the keeper, but Meslier’s outstretched frame kept the ball out and kept his side in the game, albeit momentarily.

Brighton fans finally had a goal to celebrate in the 66th minute after a lovely passage of play ended with Trossard setting up Pascal Gross, and the midfielder calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner to make it 1-0.

Leeds did mount a couple of chances before the end but Brighton controlled the game well and saw it out to take home all three points.

The Seagulls are now unbeaten in their first four Premier League games with three wins and a draw. They make the trip to London next to take on Fulham on Tuesday.
