Brighton & Hove is set to host several events to celebrate UEFA Women’s Euro2022.
In January, Brighton and Hove City Council announced that it had partnered with the Royal Pavilion and Museums Trust to create a major exhibition called ‘Goal Power: Women’s Football 1895-2022’ which celebrates the history of women’s football.
Now, Paul Ofei-Kwatia, Football Development Officer at Sussex County FA, has announced that plans are in place to build dedicated fanzones across the city which will be open to the public throughout the entire tournament.
He said: “There is a lot of stuff that we are working towards. Obviously, we’ve got the fanzones which are going to be happening in Brighton – these are going to be across two-and-a-half-weeks, during the week and not only on matchdays and weekends.
“We hope that this is obviously going to bring a lot of interest from people that maybe are not already involved in football, especially women and girls’ football.”
Brighton is one of the tournament’s host cities, with three games set to be played at the AMEX Stadium in Falmer.
Two Group A fixtures will take place in the city, including England vs Norway on July 11. The Norwegian’s will then return four days later to take on Austria.
The AMEX is also due play host to one quarter-final game.
UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 will take place from July 6 – July 31 with the final set to take place at Wembley Stadium in London.
