The third-round matchup happens at different points for both clubs’ seasons. Man City comes off a 2-1 win after being a man down for nearly 60 minutes, while Chelsea were beaten 1-0 at Stamford Bridge Sunday.
Man City sits two points off the top of the Premier League behind Arsenal and have only lost once against Liverpool.
Look for the Citizens to rotate the squad with Cancelo’s suspension and injuries to Haaland and Kyle Walker. Although, Pep Guardiola will not be taking this match lightly.
“The approach is to win the game and do the performance as good as possible. We have sold out the stadium,” Guardiola said at the Etihad.
For Graham Potter’s side, there are concerns in many departments following their loss to Arsenal.
The Blues have dropped points in four of their last five Premier League matches, stepping down to 7th. Goals have been an issue as well; they have only scored four goals in that time.
The London team have to rotate because of injuries to key players in defense and midfield. Potter has confirmed that there will be opportunities for the youth to play.
“In trying to win the game, we have to be as strong as we can,” Potter said at Stamford Bridge.
