Chelsea 0-1 Porto (2-1 Agg)
A professional display from Chelsea saw them into the Champions League semi-final despite a fantastic injury-time goal from Mehdi Taremi for Porto.
The Iranian scored a spectacular overhead kick from a Nanu cross in the 93rd minute that proved too little too late.
Otherwise, only an early error from Edouard Mendy threatened the orderly progression of Thomas Tuchel’s side when he miscued a pass directly to Jesus Corona 10 minutes in, but Jorginho was on hand to divert the shot behind.
On the one first-half occasion Porto got behind the Chelsea defence Corona smashed harmlessly over, while N’Golo Kante excelled in midfield on his return from injury as an uneventful half suited the Londoners.
Embed from Getty ImagesPorto started the second half with intent, as they had the first, but the most difficulty they caused Chelsea was when Chancel Mbemba accidentally crashed into Mendy in mid-air as the keeper claimed at a corner.
It was Chelsea who looked more likely when first Christian Pulisic, fresh from two goals at Crystal Palace, was unable to apply to finishing touch when found unmarked six yards out by Ben Chilwell, before Wilson Manafa blocked well to deny Mount.
Despite the return of top-scorer Sergio Oliveira, it took the addition of Taremi, both missing last week, to have Porto’s first attempt on target after the hour.
Taremi’s wonderful injury-time finish proved too late to provide anything more than consolation as Chelsea reached a first semi-final since 2014 and will play either Real Madrid or Liverpool.
