England captain Ben Stokes said they had done “a pretty decent job” with “a very difficult run chase” as the team went on to a humiliating defeat at the hands of Pakistan. Questions were raised by many watching the game about the poor condition of the pitch.
England were spun out by Pakistan to lose the second Test by 152 runs, setting up a series decider in Rawalpindi next week.
However, former bowler Steven Finn remains positive about England’s spirit saying: “One thing that’s really impressive about this England side is that they could’ve kicked and screamed about the pitch being used for two Tests in a row. We haven’t heard any of them say this was a disgrace. On the opposite, England have relished this as a challenge.”
The England coach admitted the pitch wasn’t at it’s best but refused to rule out Pakistan’s excellence saying: “Credit to Pakistan, they won quite a big toss. But they also played well in these conditions and
took a big gamble with the pitch.”
Pakistan captain Shan Masood did not comment on the condition of the pitch but instead focused on their ability to get the result as he said it was “the most satisfying thing”.
