Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden both score as England top group B whilst Wales exist the competition following the 3-0 loss in Qatar.

Rashford was the key difference maker for England as Gareth Southgate included him in the starting line up for the first time this this tournament which duly paid off, the boss was full of praise for him and said: “You can see with [Marcus Rashford’s] club that there has been happiness in his performances. We have a different version completely to the player we had in the Euros last summer.”

The man himself (Rashford) said: “It’s obviously a great feeling. We were disappointed as a team after the last game, we could have played a lot better. The only way to bounce back is to play better in your next game… moments like this, this is what I play football for. I am really happy today to be going into the next round of the tournament, because I have massive ambition for this team and I think we can go a lot further.”

As for Wales it was a massive achievement even making it to the World Cup Finals but unfortunately their journey has come to an end, a proud Rob Page said: “My message is don’t be disappointed. We’ve got to build for the future now. We got to a World Cup and that was an unbelievable achievement for that group of players.”

“The first goal was a wonderful strike, the second one disappointed me a little bit but I don’t want to talk about negatives today. The boys have put a shift in.”, Page’s view on the goals.

England shall progress through to the round of 16 of the World Cup where they’ll meet Senegal who finished 2nd in group A. Senegal will be a different sort of test who are rarely faced up with African opponents but one which they should be able to overcome.
