Two-time Formula 1 World Champion Fernando Alonso is recovering in hospital after suffering a broken jaw in a Cycling accident on Thursday.

Alpine F1 Team, who is a rebrand from the 2020 Renault F1 team, confirmed on Thursday evening that the 39-year-old had been involved in a Cycling accident while Cycling in Switzerland.
X-rays confirmed Alonso had suffered a fracture in his upper jaw from the accident, but in a statement from the Alpine Twitter account published on Friday the French outfit said: “We expect him to be fully operational to undertake preparation for the season.”

Alpine also said he would be kept under observation in hospital for the next 48 hours.
Alonso won both his Formula 1 titles with Renault, and will once again line-up with them in the 2021 season, alongside French teammate Esteban Ocon.
