Tomorrow, newly appointed England manager, Thomas Tuchel, releases his 25-man squad for upcoming international fixtures.
This season has given Tuchel some food for thought. With resurgences and breakthroughs alike, the gaffer has got some big decisions to make.
Here’s 5 players I think will be called up for their England debuts:
Djed Spence: Djed Spence has been on a redemption arc this season. The once ostracised right-back has been a key cog in Spurs’ engine this season. With injuries to full-backs, Ben Davies and Destiny Udogie, Spence has stepped up and cemented his importance in Ange’s starting VI. Churning out un-droppable performance’s week after week, sees him deserve a spot Tuchel’s squad. A versatile player, Spence has been deployed at both right and left back and it’s safe to say he’s thrived. Additionally, he’s strong both going forward and defensively, holding his own against the Premier League’s big boys. With Kieran Trippier recently retired, and Trent Alexander-Arnold injured; Spence looks like the inevitable choice. He’s waited long enough for his moment. He’s hungry, let’s eat.
Myles Lewis-Skelly: At only 18-years-old, Lewis-Skelly is already proving that he’s one for the future, impressing club manager Mikel Arteta at Arsenal. With Newcastle youngster, Lewis Hall, set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the Hale End graduate, looks ready to pick up the baton and run. The Three Lions rocked up to last summer’s Euros with one natural left-back; half-fit and made one appearance, now, the options seem limitless, but there is only one answer. Already precise, the poise will come with time. He’s still young and learning. The red cards might be on his mind, but it’s what’s at his feet that counts. Like Djed, he’s hungry to fight and has proven he can hold his own against experience. Tuchel, get him on board, the youngsters are shining this season.
Elliot Anderson: This decision should be a no-brainer for Tuchel. He might be flying under the radar but he’s still flying. Nottingham Forrest have been having a historic season, and this baller has been monumental to their efforts. His defensive work is endless. 44 tackles won, 170 duels won, 32 aerial duels won, and the stats just keep coming. He’s hard to break down and doesn’t mind an assist or two. A threat at both ends of the pitch. He’ll be strong cover for inevitable starter, Declan Rice, who’s featured tirelessly for Arsenal this season.
Liam Delap: A young striker with bags of potential. Are we looking at Harry Kane’s successor? There’s only one way to find out. Call him up and get him learning from England’s greatest ever striker. The 22-year-old looks likely to get a big money move this summer, especially with Ipswich staring down the barrel at relegation. Ten goals and two assists in the Prem this season, he’s too good to play in the Championship – he should be playing for England. Tuchel can definitely get the best out of him.
Jamie Gittens: The Borussia Dortmund wonder-kid needs a call-up. The German side have close connections to young English talent, with Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho both being developed in black and yellow. Gittens is next up. He offers something fresh. With him and Antony Gordon owning the left-wing, opponents have no chance keeping up. At only 20, he’s got three Bundesliga seasons under his belt and almost a century of games. He’s already a seasoned baller and needs his chance to prove it in white, especially with a German manager at the helm who understands that you don’t need Premier League pedigree to get a call up.
