Kane broke the goal scoring record England got small but sweet revenge in a 2-1 victory against Italy in group C of the European Qualifiers for the 2024 Germany Euros. The England skipper grabbed the winner from the spot and made himself England’s leading goal scorer, netting his 54th goal for his country.
Hammers midfielder Rice nicked the opener after Kane’s shot was blocked and it fell to Rice, who didn’t disappoint and smashed it beyond the keepers reach. The Lions broke the deadlock early against an Italy side who are almost favourites to win the Nations League and haven’t lost to England since the 15th of August in 2012.
Kane overtook World Cup winner Sir Bobby Charlton as well as Wayne Rooney with his goal, a penalty that was awarded after a VAR check for handball was awarded England’s way before half time. Italy set the tone for a comeback after 23 year old Retegui replaced injured Immobile and bagged his debut goal for Italy.
The Tigre striker got his name higher in the ranking in the never ending lift of Italian forwards.
England defender Luke Shaw was sent off after receiving two yellows in 54 seconds after a poor challenge on the goalscorer Retegui leaves official Srdjan Jovanovic with no choice but to send off the fullback.
Overall the game finalised an important three points for England in the European Qualifiers and they beat their toughest opposition in group 3. The Lions will next face Ukraine on Sunday.
