Home   /   Kirby heroics seal win for the Seagulls

Brighton came out on top in a five-goal thriller today at the Amex continuing their best ever start to a WSL season.

Just before the 30-minute mark veteran attacker Fran Kirby set up Rachel McLauchlan to give the Seagulls a 1-0 lead.

Kirby cleverly flicked on a pass with her back heel to McLauchlan who then curled the ball into the bottom left corner.

The assist from Kirby marked her 100th goal involvement in the WSL (65 goals, 35 assists) becoming just the fourth player in the competition’s history to reach the milestone.

The Seagulls then doubled their lead through a finish from the center of the box by Kiko Seike in the 60th minute.

Despite going 2-0 down, the Hammers showed great determination responding with two goals in quick succession, by captain Katrina Gorry in the 64th and 69th minute.

The Australian midfielder scored via two long range efforts from outside the box.

The captain, however, was forced off through injury in the 74th minute.

Then, in the 82nd minute, the final twist in the tie came with a brilliant finish from Kirby into the bottom right corner sealing the three points for Brighton and capping off a truly memorable day for the veteran attacker and her side.
