A second-half brace from Kylian Mbappe inspired France to a 2-1 win over Denmark in their Group D match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

With the win, Didier Deschamps’ men became the first team to book their place in the last 16 of this year’s tournament.

The PSG forward had a slow first half before coming to life in the second. Mbappe opened the scoring after combining with Theo Hernandez and poking the ball past Kasper Schmeichel from close range just past the hour mark.

Andreas Christensen restored parity for the Danes through a well-worked corner routine seven minutes later.

Mbappe doubled his and France’s tally in the 86th minute after bundling the ball in off his thigh from an Antoine Griezmann cross.

Mbappe now has 31 goals for the French national team, the same as Les Bleus legend Zinedine Zidane.

The holders are now all but assured of qualifying top of their group with this win and can use their next game against Tunisia to rest a few regulars before the knockout stages.

Meanwhile, Denmark’s final group game against Australia is now a must-win for them, following the Socceroos 1-0 win over Tunisia earlier in the day.
