Patrick Bamford scored for Leeds United in front of the watching England boss Gareth Southgate as the hosts put significant a dent in Tottenham’s Champions League ambitions.
In an enthralling encounter at Elland Road, Stuart Dallas deservedly put Leeds ahead with his eighth goal of a remarkable debut campaign in the Premier League pouncing from close-range after Hugo Lloris’ terrific reaction save to stop Sergio Reguillon scoring an own goal.
Tottenham fought back just eleven minutes after though, Son Hueng-Min equalising with a clinical finish after Dele Alli’s delicate smart pass. The midfielder ran through Leeds’ midfield unchallenged before playing a clever pass for Son to score his 22nd goal of the campaign, his best scoring season.
But Leeds quickly responded through Bamford, who will have impressed the observant Gareth Southgate as he mulls over his England squad for the Euros this summer.
Bamford notched his 15th league goal of the season tapping in Ezgjan Alioski’s cross before substitute Rodrigo confirmed Spurs’ first league defeat in three games under interim manager Ryan Mason after a superb flowing counter-attacking move from Leeds finished with the returning Raphinha laying on for Rodrigo to score.
On yet another frustrating day for Spurs, Harry Kane had two goals ruled out for offside – the first, controversially – and hit the bar from a free-kick with his English counterpart Patrick Bamford having a much better day in front of goal, while Illan Meslier produced an excellent save to keep out Serge Aurier’s deflected attempt.

Leeds meanwhile continue on their remarkable return to the top-flight, climbing above Aston Villa and Arsenal – who both play on Sunday – into ninth place in the league table.
