Leicester claimed another two points in the League Cup after winning the penalty shootout 4-3 against Brighton at Broadfield Stadium, as both teams went scoreless in the 90 minutes.
Substitute Deanne Rose scored the decisive penalty for the Foxes with a power shot that escaped the fingertips of goalkeeper Melian Loeck.
This came after Brighton missed their final two attempts with Leicester goalkeeper Lize Kop diving to her right to save Maisie Symonds’ spot kick while Michelle Agyemang failed to hit the target.
Amandine Miquel’s side had chances to score throughout the match and they probably would have done so in the 36th minute through Hannah Cain if it wasn’t for a fantastic lunging block from Symonds.
They once again nearly opened the scoring in the 63rd minute when Yuka Momiki hit the crossbar with her long range attempt.
It appeared the Foxes had taken the lead a few minutes later after Saori Takarada tapped in the rebound following Momiki’s initial shot, however Takarada was ruled offside.
Leicester Fullback C.J. Bott eventually had a stoppage time opportunity to win the match but her shot from the right side went wide.
Brighton did have a penalty claim ignored in the first half when Agyemang appeared to go down in the box, however the referee did not see enough to point to the spot.
While the Seagulls looked more dangerous after Nikita Parris was introduced in the second half, they ultimately were unable to create enough opportunities thus sending the match to penalties.
