Lewes succumbed to their fourth defeat of the season, they were beaten 3-1 by league leaders Dover Athletic at the Dripping Pan in the Isthmian Premier Division.

A commanding Dover led early in the 8th minute as Ruben Soares-Juniors’s looping cross was met in the air by George Nikaj, who headed into the bottom corner.

Moments later, Soares-Junior added a goal of his own, finishing neatly to double the lead in the 11th minute.

The Whites continued to bombard Lewes during the first half, being denied a goal in the 22nd minute when Marcel McIntosh scooped the ball off the goal line.

However, the home side could not cope with Dover’s dominance who made it three before half-time when Luke Baptiste calmly slotted home from the penalty spot after a foul in the box.

After the break, Lewes were given a glimmer of hope as Danny Bassett pulled one back for the hosts when he pounced on a rebound.

Despite an increase in intensity and pressure from the Rooks, Dover’s determination and discipline pushed them over the line.

Lewes play Canvey Island at home next, while Dover welcome second-place Cray Valley PM for a highly anticipated clash at the table’s summit.
