Hello and welcome to the live blog of this Club World Cup Group G game between Italian Giants Juventus and Manchester City at the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. My name is Ron and I will be talking you through this game – should be a good one.
It’s a warm afternoon for this game, with Kick off in the middle of the afternoon (3pm) with temperatures hitting 31!! Both teams have qualified but a loss for either team will see them face Real Madrid in the last 16.
The main team news for Manchester City is that Rodri starts his first game since his ACL injury in September last year. He has come off the bench in the other two group games, but is in the starting 11 for this one. City make six other changes from their 6-0 defeat of Al-Ain with Ederson, Dias, Reijnders, Doku, Marmoush and Savinho coming in for Ortega, Khusanov, Gvardiol, Gonalez, Gundogan, Haaland and Echeverri.
Juventus make five changes from their 4-1 win over Wydad on Sunday, with Kostic and Locatelli coming in for Thuram and Cambiaso in midfield, and Gonzalez, Koopmeiners and Vlahovic replacing Conceicao, Yildiz and Muani up front.
Five minutes to kick off, and the first side to be announced is the ‘Old Lady of Turin’ Juventus as one by one the team is announced. The City players are now on their way out, being announced to the crowd. Kick off is just moments away.
0′ Kick off and it’s Juventus on the attack.
5′ Rayan Ait Nouri beats his marker a couple of times before crossing for Bernardo Silva to head the ball goalward, but it was well saved by Michele di Gregorio, however the flag went up for offside.
9′ GOAL Juventus 0-1 Man City – Jeremy Doku cut onto his right foot and curls his shot past di Gregorio into the bottom corner.
11′ GOAL Juventus 1-1 Man City – Teun Koopmeiners pounces on a mistake from Ederson and he scores from a tight angle.
16′ This is turning in to a really good game, living up to it’s billing. Firstly a long ball is cut out by Ederson, who then played a through-ball to Rodri to in turn tried to feed Doku again but it was cut out by Kalulu.
18′ An interesting fact – Lloyd Kelly is the only English player in either starting 11 – and he is playing for Juventus…
20′ Corner to Juventus – but it come to nothing. The resulting ball into the box saw Gonalez offside.
22′ Rodri fouled about 30 yards from goal. Bernardo and Marmoush over the ball, and Marmoush take the kick and floors Savona as it hits him on the side of the head so the physio comes on. A drop ball to City restarts the game.
26′ GOAL Juventus 1-2 Man City – Nunes plays the ball across the box for Marmoush to score, however Pierre Kalulu tries to clear and slots it home instead.
31′ Reijnders picks out Marmoush, but his shot is weak and easily saved by the di Gregorio. It’s been all City, with 77% of the ball and eight shots on goal. Time for a cooling break in this heat.
34′ The game gets back under way. Man City have only had one shot on goal, which was Doku’s second goal of the tournament and lead 2-1, with Juventus only having their one shot go in from Koopmeiners.
39′ Savinho cuts inside two Juventus defenders but his shot lacked power and is easily saved.
41′ It starts raining and Ait-Nouri fires in a volley that’s well saved by di Gregorio. It is absolutely hosing it down now – as long as they can get to half time before the lightning starts…
45′ Four minutes injury to be played – as the rain eases…
45+4′ Omar Marmoush fires in a great shot from about 25 yeards, which is superbly palmed away for a corner by di Gregorio. The corner comes in and Akanji heads an effort towards goal, but it is cleared. The ref blows for half time…I’ll be back for the second half.
Both sides are out on the field for the second half and Erling Haaland enters the game to replace Omar Marmoush at the start of the second half.
46′ The second half gets under way. Can Juventus get back into this one.
47′ Haaland almost makes an immediate impact but he fails to get on the end of Savinho’s cross along the six-yard box.
50′ Doku cuts in from the left sideline, makes his way towards the middle of the goal but fires his shot wide of the right hand post.
52′ GOAL Juventus 1-3 Man City – Erling Haaland scored a tap in from inside the six-yard boxas he slots home a Nunes cross. This goal is Haaland’s 300th Goal of his career.
55′ A rare Juventus attack ends in an offside decision.
57′ Three subsititions for Juventus, as Cambiaso, Thuram and Yildiz come on for Localtelli, Costa and Koopmeiners. Two changes left for the Bianconeri.
59′ Yildiz fires a shot wide with his first touch.
60′ An injury to Savona after he tried to tackle Haaland has meant that he has to come off. Federico Gatti takes his place.
62′ A foul on Ait-Nouri gives Man City a free kick, about 30 yards from the goal. Played out to Doku but it’s cleared and it’s a throw-in to Juventus.
64′ It’s not Kalulu’s night – First he gives away an own goal, and now he is shown the first yellow card of the game for a foul on Reijnders. Again, it’s from about 30 yards, and Bernardo Silva crosses the ball but it goes out for a goal kick.
66′ Substitutions for Man City as Rodri and Doku come off for Foden and Gundogan. Good to see Rodri playing for 66 minutes as he makes his way back to full fitness.
68′ Ederson, who hasn’t has a lot to do in this game, rushes out to the edge of his box for force Vlahovic into a shot and he saves his is right hand.
69′ GOAL Juventus 1-4 Man City Phil Foden scores with his first touch, as defence turns into attack for City, with Ederson finding Haaland, who slides the ball into the box and the ball bounces off savinho and into Foden’s path, who slams it into an empty net.
75′ A couple more changes for Man City, sees Cherki and O’Reilly come on for Bernardo Silva and Ait-Nouri.
76′ GOAL Juventus 1-5 Man City – An absolute net buster from Savinho as the ball comes out to him off di Gregorio, who saved Haaland’s shot with his legs, 20 yards out off the underside of the crossbar. Time for the cooling break…
79′ Yildiz fires over the bar after some shaky defending by City…but they have not had a lot to do as Juventus have been poor, as much as City have been magnificent.
83′ The final substitute for Juventus as Adzic comes on for McKennie. Both sides have made all their substitutes now…not surprising really in the heat of Orlando.
84′ GOAL Juventus 2-5 Man City – Dusan Vlahovic scores a consolation goal from an excellent pass from Kenan Yildiz. VAR checks for offside but the goal stands.
88′ It appears the crowd are not entertained as they start up a Mexican wave around the ground. Obviously SEVEN goals are not enough…
90′ Three minutes injury time shown by the fourth official
90+2′ di Gregori makes another great save, this time from Cherki, who was picked out by Haaland.
FULL TIME – Juventus 2-5 Man City. A convincing win for Man City as they become the only team in the tournament to win all three group games, and they also became top scorers, with 13 goals, one more than Bayern Munich. They now face the runner up in Group H, which will be either Red Bull Salzburg or Real Madrid. But Al Hilal will be hoping that one of them loses as if they beat Pachuca, then they can qualify as runner up…Jeremy Doku has been voted Man of the Match or “Superior Player of the match”.
Thank you for joining me for this game – what a game it was too. Hope to see you soon.
