Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed it was the “best performance” that his side have produced against City in his tenure as manager. The drab Manchester Derby was short of imagination and attacking intent.

Solskjaer described it as a “tight game” between “two good teams” and alluded to the different circumstances saying, “I know we beat them a few times last season but those were different games, we counter attacked. Today was the most we’ve been in the game possession wise”.

Solskjaer added: “They had a few big moments, David’s (De Gea) great save, Harry (Maguire’s) good block”. “Tactically we knew they were going to give us some problems and I thought defensively we were excellent.” Solskjaer also added about his sides defensive performance, saying that he was: “Delighted with the defensive shape.”

City defender John Stones was named Man of the Match, he said “We both didn’t create many chances. Both very good defensively, another clean sheet for us. We’re a bit frustrated we’ve not come away with more but I think overall, we fought so well.”

Stones looking forward said: “It’s another step forward, it’s another chance for us to climb up the table and get more points. It’s a challenge for us and the same for them.”

Both sides will be looking to their midweek fixtures in the league to bounce back. City hosts struggling West Brom, whilst United visit bottom of the table Sheffield United.
